Learn To Spin On A Spinning Wheel
Next Class: 2 Days Saturday 6/7/2008 and Saturday 6/14/08 From 10:30 am to 1:30 pm (6 hours total) at Ruthie's Weaving Studio 503-232-7328. Class is limited to 5 students to ensure that everyone gets personal attention. Tuition is $75.00 if you bring your own wheel, $90.00 if you want to use one of ours. There is also a $10.00 materials fee which will cover 23+ pages of hand-outs, 8 oz of fiber, wpi gauge, binder ring, note cards and use of other needed studio equipment.
What You Will Learn: You will learn the parts of the spinning wheel and how they work, wheel maintenance, treadling, types of fiber, types of fiber preparation, pre-drafting, short-draw spinning, plying from bobbins, plying from a center-pull ball, skeining, setting the twist, and more.

If you would like to reserve your spot to participate in the class and you need to use one of our wheels, a $53.00 deposit is required and is applied to your tuition fee at the beginning of class. If you have your own wheel (it must be in working order prior to the start of the class - call if you need help) a $37.50 deposit will hold your spot. If you reserve a spot and cannot attend, you must notify Ruthie's no less than 3 days in advance of the class to qualify for a refund.

Learn To Spin With A Drop Spindle
Next Class: Saturday 7/5/08 From 10:30 am to 1:00 pm at Ruthie's Weaving Studio. Class is limited to 5 students to ensure everyone gets personal attention. Tuition is $35.00 plus a $5.00 materials fee. You get to use a high quality student top-whorl spindle, you will be given fiber for spinning and hand-outs. You can bring your own spindle if you have one, or use one of ours. Student spindles are available to purchase after class for $15.00.
What you will learn: Students will learn to make a leader for their drop spindle, how to pre-draft their fiber in preparation to spin, spinning singles using the "park & draft" method which will lead to conventional drop spindling, drafting while spinning, making a join in the single ply yarn, making a center- pull ball to ply from, plying, Andean plying, skeining, and finishing your yarn.

To reserve your spot in the class, we recommend sending in a deposit of $17.50 which will be applied toward your tuition of $40.00 when you attend class.
